"A high-ranking military officer from Iran was killed in last night's Israeli attack in Damascus," this was reported by media from Tehran, quoted by the publication of the Jewish state Newzru.

"According to the official information agencies of the Islamic Republic, during the attack in the Syrian capital, Milad Hidari - an advisor in the elite unit of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps - was killed, Newsru added.

"Tehran, however, did not reveal details about the death of the military man, nor did it publish a biographical report on the deceased, as is the usual practice in such cases," the Israeli media also pointed out.

"Commentators did not rule out the possibility that such a person never existed and that the news of his death could become a reason for an Iranian attack on Israel," Newzrou added.

"The London-based NGO Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has many informants in the troubled Middle Eastern country, said today that the attack last night hit air defense installations of the Damascus armed forces. Ammunition depots were also hit and fuels used by pro-Iranian groups," the publication from the Jewish state also wrote.

Powerful explosions were heard in Damascus.
