Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday wished Christian religious leader Pope Francis to get well soon.

Francis was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after breathing problems for some time and was confirmed to have a respiratory infection.

PM Modi said in a tweet, "Wishing Pope Francis good health and a speedy recovery."

The Prime Minister said this while reacting to the tweet of Pope Francis, in which the Pope had thanked those who wished for his speedy recovery.

Earlier, the Vatican said on Thursday that the condition of Pope Francis is continuously improving.

Pope Francis, 86, ate breakfast, read newspapers and worked from his room at Rome's Gemelli hospital, according to a statement by Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni.

Pope has only one functioning lung, as one lung was removed at a young age.

"Before lunch, the Pope went to the small chapel of the private apartment, where he participated in prayer as well as the Eucharist, a Christian sacrament," the statement said. The Vatican has said that the Pope will spend a few days for treatment. Will stay in the hospital.
