Members of the European Commission are leaning toward the decision to grant

Georgia

the status of a candidate for joining the European Union.

This was reported by the publication

Echo of the Caucasus

.

Sources of the publication report that such a decision can be made only if the Georgian authorities do not take a few more steps to distance themselves from the European Union in the coming months.

The publication also reports that the European Commission will propose to start negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova on joining the European Union in October this year, but Tbilisi will lag behind in this matter.

In turn, Radio Svoboda correspondent Rikard Jozvyak said that there is still a long time before the publication of the European Commission's reports.

In the event that the European Commission recommends granting Georgia the status of a candidate for joining the European Union, this will not be a final decision.

It must be approved by 27 EU member states, and the actual vote may take place in December.

It will be recalled that earlier political scientist Volodymyr Fesenko stated that the Georgian government helps Russia circumvent sanctions.
