The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences announces with deep sadness that academician Ludmil Vladimirov Hristoskov passed away on March 29.

Academician Lyudmil Hristoskov was born on May 12, 1936 in Sofia.

In 1959, he graduated from the Higher Mining and Geological Institute - Sofia, majoring in "Geophysics".

He worked on distribution as a geophysicist in "Rare Metals and Geological Surveys", and in 1960 he began his scientific activity at the Geophysical Institute of the BAS - Seismology Section.

In 1963, he became a research assistant, in 1972 - a candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, in 1973 - a senior research assistant II, in 1984 he received the degree "Doctor of Physical Sciences", and in 1986 was elected professor of seismology.

In 1995, he was elected a corresponding member of the BAS, and in 2003 – an academician.

Acad. Hristoskov is an outstanding geophysicist, the most famous and authoritative Bulgarian specialist in the field of seismology, with great international fame and recognition.

His works are characterized by a wide spectrum - from theoretical statements related to the seismic regularities and seismic activity of the Bulgarian lands, the magnitude to the seismic zoning of the country and norms for anti-seismic construction.
