TRADERS and importers of goods from abroad have been asked to stop cheating when they import their goods from abroad, because by doing so they will be held accountable according to the law.

The Director General from the Competition Commission (FCC), William Erio has warned against this behavior in a session he met with traders and importers from abroad held in Dar es Salaam.

Erio has said that there has been a fraudulent behavior among builders who import their products, large exporters as well as industrialists who buy tools for their workers, who import a greater number of tools than the reality.

"You are given projects but when you order equipment you say it is for personal use.

You find that the factory has 40 people, you order 2000 pairs, so each worker will wear 50 pairs, which is impossible.

” There is a transport company that brings spares every month or after two months, which is impossible every month you change the spares.

As a government agency, we cannot allow that," he said.

He said that people have been complaining that they are delaying their business, but they should bring real things into the country.

He also said that there is a law that requires the product imported into the country to be known from which country it comes from, the objectives being to show the source so that if there is a problem, the law is taken.

” Vilevike enables the product when it has a problem, you return it to where it came from as the law says.

Now, if the product is not known from which country it comes from, if its country is not written, where do you return it when it does not have any markings?

he has questioned.

He has said that this is the legal requirement, so when they want to inspect the products, they do so.

He previously said that the government's intention is to ensure that businessmen do business in a good environment so that citizens can benefit from their products and the country's economy can grow.

A businessman from the Estam Construction company, Raya Eiriyamy has said that they have had a challenge when they import products from Europe, it comes to the country if it has been produced in China, and asked for international laws to be clear in that regard.
