The Ministry of Finance and Planning has said that the Government has started the process of preparing the New National Development Vision (Vision 2050), which will provide a vision and set national goals for the next 25 years.

This was stated by the Deputy Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance and Planning, Jenifa Christian Omolo, while speaking to journalists about the launch event of the Preparation of the National Development Vision 2050 which is expected to be held by the Vice President of Tanzania, Dr. Philip Mpango, on April 3 , 2023 in the meeting hall of Jakaya Kikwete Dodoma.

Omolo has said that the preparation of the new 2050 vision meets the requirements of the Tanzanian constitution after the end of the implementation period of the current national development vision of 2025, which is expected to expire after the next two years.

"The National Development Vision of 2025, its implementation will reach its end in 2025 where until now its implementation has enabled the nation to take a big step forward in various fields, especially social, economic and political", said Mrs.

Omolo.

He said that the history of planning in the country has started since the country gained independence where the desire was to fight the three enemies of the nation, including ignorance, poverty and disease.

He said the implementation of these plans went hand in hand with the implementation of various programs managed by the World Bank (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with the aim of bringing economic stability and structural reforms in the country.

"In order to achieve the planned goals, the Government started the process of preparing the National Development Vision (TDV 2025) in 1995 which was completed in 2000", explained Ms.

Omolo.

He said the implementation of the vision began through programs to reduce poverty as the Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS I) in 1999/2000 - 2002/03, known as the National Strategy for Economic Development and Poverty Reduction (MKUKUTA I) in 2004/05 - 2009 /10 and MKUKUTA II in 2010/11 - i 2014/15.

Omolo pointed out that in 2009/10, the Government assessed the implementation of Vision 2025 through development strategies and programs and found that there is a need for the Nation to start planning the country's priorities where the Long Term Development Plan (LTPP) 2011/12 - 2025 /26) was created.

In addition, He gave an opinion to all stakeholders to participate in a large way to give their contribution that will enable the preparation of a new Vision with the vision of Tanzanians for the next 25 years because the success of the preparation exercise for the National Development Vision 2050 depends to a large extent on the participation of all stakeholders.
