The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Investment and Public Capital (PIC) has commended the government for investing more than Shs 70 trillion in public organizations.

The chairman of the committee, Jerry Silaa, gave the compliments in Mwanza while speaking after the committee visited the Port of Mwanza to see the implementation of the Mwanza Hapa Kazi Tu ship construction project.

Silaa said that there is no strategic or development project that has been allocated funds and has stopped and during the visit to various regions they have found that the projects are in progress.

He said the construction of Mv Mwanza Hapa Kazi Tu ship, modern railway (SGR) to Mwanza region and JPM bridge will open up the region economically.

"Mwanza region will return to its image of being a 'hub' in the neighboring countries of Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, whose cargo can pass through here," said Silaa.

He said the PIC in accordance with Article 62 (ii) of the Constitution of the United Republic of Tanzania which is to advise and supervise the government and through the project of Mr. Mwanza's ship Hapa Kazi Tu the Committee has seen how the government is doing its work and fulfilling its responsibilities his.

"We are satisfied with the work that is being done here in Mwanza, I believe that public capital investment is being done well," he said.

The Chief Executive of MSCL, Eric Hamissi said Mr. Mwanza's ship Hapa Kazi Tu is expected to be handed over to the government in the next six months.

Hamissi said the mission of the government when the ship is completed will have spent the cost of 46.9 million US dollars equal to 109.15 billion Sh.

"A good step has been taken towards its completion," he said and added that when the ship is completed it will weigh 3,500 tons.
