The French government continues its dialogue with trade unions on the reform that foresees raising the retirement age, French President Emmanuel Macron announced today

Emmanuel Macron was born on December 21, 1977 in the city of Amiens.

He is the youngest president in the background of mass protests in the country against this decision, reported Reuters.

"We are facing challenges, but that doesn't mean we will stop (the reform - ed.)," Macron said.

The strike, which has been disrupting the normal operations of Électriques de France (EDF) since the beginning of March, has been extended until April 6, the French energy company announced.

The French government has invited the unions to a meeting over the pension reform

A labor protest against pension reform in France led to capacity curtailments for most of this month at nuclear, thermal and hydropower plants run by the corporation.

Due to the strike, the maintenance of several nuclear reactors has been delayed, Reuters notes.

France is one of the developed countries with the lowest retirement age.

It allocates more compared to many other countries for pensions, and in 2021 the funds are equal to 13.8 percent of the country's gross domestic product (GDP), informs the online portal statista.com, quoted by BTA.
