The upcoming presidency of Russia in the UN Security Council, which begins on Saturday, April 1, and will last for a month, was called "a bad joke" by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy wrote about this on his Twitter.

"Russia's chairmanship of the UN Security Council on April 1 is a bad joke.

Russia usurped its place;

it is waging a colonial war;

its president is a war criminal wanted by the International Criminal Court for child abduction," his post reads.

Dmytro Kuleba also emphasized that "the world cannot be a safe place with Russia in the UN Security Council."

Russia has usurped its seat;

it's waging a colonial war;

its leader is a war criminal wanted by the ICC for kidnapping children.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will chair the next meeting of the UN Security Council, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, announced.

"A key measure of the Russian presidency [of the Security Council] will be an open high-level debate on effective multilateralism by protecting the principles of the UN Charter," Zakharova said.

As you know, the UN Security Council consists of 15 member states, and each member has one vote.

According to the Charter of the United Nations, each state takes turns chairing the Security Council, and rotation takes place every month.

The last presidency of the Russian Federation in an international body designed to maintain international peace and security took place in February 2022, when it launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

It will be recalled that earlier the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba stated that it will be possible to end the war with the help of diplomacy only when Russia is defeated on the battlefield.
