Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov's defiant response to an attack on a police station in the Chechen city of Gudermes suggests he may be worried about the future of his authoritarian regime.

This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Kadyrov claimed that Chechen security forces killed two unidentified men who attempted to carry out an attack in Gudermes, Chechnya, on the night of March 28, and Russian sources expanded on a video purportedly showing two men shooting at a local police station.

According to analysts, Kadyrov's special forces university is located in Gudermes, although it is still not known for certain whether the attack was connected to this educational institution.

Kadyrov published footage of himself, his 15-year-old son and an entourage of Chechen officials and security forces visiting the site of the attack and inspecting the mutilated bodies of the attackers.

According to ISW, Kadyrov carried out this demonstrative search of the bodies to enhance his image as a strongman and to send a signal to Chechens that any form of internal resistance to his rule would be eliminated.

"The very fact that Kadyrov's reaction to the attack was so immediate and violent suggests that he is concerned about the potential for internal resistance within Chechnya that could undermine his authoritarian rule," ISW analysts believe.

ISW analysts recalled that on March 13, Kadyrov met with Putin in order to increase the relevance of Chechnya in the Russian political and military sphere.

ISW suggests that Putin may be taking advantage of Kadyrov's fears that he will fall out of favor.

The head of the Kremlin will press his Chechen puppet to increase the number of his fighters at the front in Ukraine.

"Kadyrov probably sees any signs of internal instability in Chechnya as a threat to his continued favor from Putin," the experts concluded.

We will remind that in Russian Ingushetia, unknown persons fired at a police post.

One security officer was injured as a result of the attack.
