[Reporter Fang Zhixian/Kaohsiung Report] Minister of Education Pan Wenzhong announced in January this year that the teacher-student ratio in kindergartens will be reduced to 1:12 starting from the 112th school year.

The Gaoshi Teachers’ Professional Union said today that in response to this policy, the Gaoshi Education Bureau’s draft plan was to be “implemented in three years” and reduced from 1:14 to 1:12 year by year, which not only disappointed the grassroots. Those public and kindergarten students with better enrollment have to wait 3 years to reduce the teacher-student ratio, which is equivalent to punishing teachers who are serious about running schools in disguise!

In this regard, the Education Bureau stated that there are 215 kindergartens for public and kindergartens in Gao City. After investigation, there are still 89 kindergartens with ratios of 1 to 13, 1 to 14, and even 1 to 15 in the 112 school year.

Regarding the reduction of the teacher-student ratio for kindergartens and kindergartens, it is necessary to reduce the teacher-student ratio year by year due to factors such as direct promotion of 2-year-old classes, hot demand areas (gardens), and distances from other kindergartens.

The Bureau of Education emphasized that in line with the central policy, it is expected that in the 114 school year, the ratio of teachers and students in each class of 3 to 5-year-old classes will reach 1:12. For kindergartens that cannot be reduced and meet the needs of parents, supporting measures will be discussed to meet the needs of parents. Reduce the burden on education and security personnel.

The Gaoshi Teachers’ Professional Union said today that the teacher-student ratio has always been 1:15 for public kindergartens, and 30 students for 2 teachers.

Earlier this year, the Ministry of Education announced that it is a national policy to reduce the teacher-student ratio in kindergartens to 1:12 in the 112 school year.

The Gaoshi Teachers’ Professional Union said that the Gaoshi Education Bureau’s plan to reduce the teacher-to-student ratio, grassroots preschool educators all hope to “achieve it in one step”, but the draft issued by the Education Bureau is “divided into three years, from 1 to 14 every year. It was downgraded to 1 to 12", which disappointed the grassroots.

The professional teachers union said that according to the plan of the Education Bureau, the only schools that can directly reduce the "teacher-student ratio to 1:12" in the 112 school year are the public and children who are "not fully enrolled in the 111 school year"; "The male and young children adopt "decrease year by year".

The teachers' professional union suggested that if there are still places in neighboring public and kindergartens, parents should be encouraged to register separately, so as to achieve "1 to 12 places at one time" as much as possible.

If there are not enough places in the kindergarten for direct admission to kindergarten classes, it will be reduced year by year, but some additional manpower or funds should be provided to assist in the operation of the teaching site to maintain the quality of education.

Public kindergartens that cannot reduce the number of students (that is, those with good enrollment) should be given substantial compensation, such as providing kindergarten teachers with the number of days of compensatory leave for public holidays or setting hourly fees for public holidays, so that kindergartens can use the special funds.
