[Reporter Yang Mianjie/Taipei Report] The Ministry of Justice intends to amend the civil law to limit parents' right to discipline, which has triggered parent groups to oppose the brutal law amendment and believe that resources should be invested in family education.

The Humanistic Education Foundation supports the revision of the law, believing that it can not only define physical and mental violence, but also promote the emergence of supporting measures, which will have a positive impact on parental discipline.

Renben said that the real needs of parents lie in child-rearing support policies, not punishment.

The foundation conducted a survey before, in order to understand the real needs of parents, an additional option of "agree, but need to have supporting measures", 53.6% of the respondents chose this option, that is, most parents do not want to beat and scold their children , the real need is to have supporting policies to fully support childcare.

Renben believes that the revision of the law does not hinder parenting. If parents can clearly distinguish parenting and violence, they will naturally not be affected by the amendment of the civil law. Define, help parents to distinguish parenting and violence more clearly, have clear behavioral boundaries, and are less likely to accidentally cross the boundaries.

Renben emphasizes that it is the blessing of parents to use the opportunity of practicing the law to promote supporting measures.

It can be seen from the zero-violence legislation process in most countries that legal amendments are an important opportunity to support the implementation of childcare-related policies.

Therefore, we call on the government to correctly understand the needs of parents and complete the amendment of the law as soon as possible to provide parents with adequate child-rearing support and supporting measures.

In the end, Renben mentioned that the revision of the law changed discipline from children to protection and education, revealing that Taiwan's society as a whole has gained a certain degree of confidence and has the ability to develop better methods and heal the injuries from past growth experience.

By refusing to copy the violent discipline of the previous generation, and showing the power and subjectivity of upward goodness, this is an important direction for the society as a whole to move forward. This is also an important action that the government should fully support and advance together with parents and society.
