Pepsi updated its logo and returned to the classic red, white and blue globe with wavy lines.

The new design will first appear in North America this fall for the brand's 125th anniversary.

The company will unveil the updated logo globally next year, "marking the brand's next era, looking to the future."

This is stated on the Pepsi website.

"At PepsiCo, we design our brands to tell a compelling and cohesive story. Pepsi is a prime example of a brand that has reinvented itself for 125 years to remain a part of pop culture and a part of people's lives," noted Senior Vice President and chief designer of PepsiCo Mauro Porcini.

According to him, the company developed a new brand identity "to connect future generations with the heritage of our brand, combining differences from our history with modern elements to show our bold vision of the future."

"The updated color palette includes blue and black colors that add contrast, brightness and modernity to the classic Pepsi color scheme," the company added.

Among the key elements of the updated design, the Pepsi lettering has been returned to the inside of the circle on a white stripe, and, given the "continuing focus of the brand on Pepsi Zero Sugar", the design uses the color black, which "further emphasizes the brand's commitment to Pepsi Zero Sugar in the future."
