A woman who made her first jump missed her intended landing spot and became entangled in high-voltage power lines.

Firefighters from Riverside County were called to Lake Elsinore to rescue the rookie.

Electricity in the area had to be turned off while it was untied from the cables.

California Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeff Roberts said he did not know how the woman escaped being electrocuted.

The woman, who refused to give her name, was not injured in the accident.

She explained that she simply took the wrong turn: "So I was trying to pass this power line, then I made a sharp right turn, and then I drove into another power line."

Skydive Elsinore general manager and co-owner Josh Hall said the incident was "very rare," adding that more than 100,000 jumps occur annually.

He added that the parachute "opened properly and was in excellent working order" but she made a mistake and veered away from the drop zone.

An eyewitness said he was surprised to see the woman acting so calmly, given the predicament she found herself in.

"She was just resting there, which was strange because it's pretty scary," he said.
