On Sunday night, a man wearing a Halloween mask, gloves, a hood and a cape broke into the apartment complex of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz

Olaf Scholz is a German politician from the Social Democratic Party (GSDP).

From December 2021 in Potsdam, German publication Spiegel reported, citing security officials and publishing a screenshot of the building's surveillance camera footage.

According to Spiegel, the unidentified man tried to break into the apartment, then fled the scene after being spotted.

Scholz was not home at the time of the burglary.

He was busy enough trying to keep his coalition — made up of his center-left Social Democrats, the Greens and the liberal SDP — together in a meeting that lasted about 8 hours and ended without agreement on several outstanding issues, Politico reported.

Although the official residence of the German Chancellor is the Federal Chancellery in Berlin, not all Chancellors choose to live there.

During her tenure, Angela Merkel lived in a civilian apartment in central Berlin, with limited security.

According to Spiegel, stricter security measures were taken after the incident in Scholz's residential complex, Darik reports.
