[Reporter Peng Jianli/Miaoli Report] The Environmental Protection Bureau of the Miaoli County Government manages water intakes from popular mountain springs and conducts regular inspections.

The Environmental Protection Bureau announced the latest test results. The coliform group in Xinjilong (Longquan) of Tongluo Township was found to be 1400 CFU/100mL, which did not meet the drinking water quality standard of 50 CFU/100mL.

The Environmental Protection Agency reminds the public to use mountain spring water and be sure to boil it before drinking.

In order to ensure the safety of drinking water for the public, the Environmental Protection Bureau of the county government conducted random inspections on March 8th of the water quality at three public mountain spring water intakes in Zhusen Village, Tongluo Township, Xinjilong (Longquan) Tongluo Township, and Shiguanyin, Toufen City. The test items include: pH value, coliform group, chromaticity, total hardness, turbidity, chloride salt, nitrite nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, sulfate, ammonia nitrogen, etc. 10 items.

The Environmental Protection Bureau announced the test results yesterday (27th). Among them, the measured value of coliform bacteria in Xinjilong, Tongluo Township exceeded the standard and did not meet the water quality standards for drinking water sources. The other 2 sites and items all met the water quality standards for drinking water sources.

Chen Huasheng, director of the Environmental Protection Bureau, said that the main reason for the high failure rate of E. coli in water quality testing is that open natural water bodies are easily affected by falling dust or rainfall, resulting in the introduction of non-point source pollution.

If people use mountain spring water, well water, or simple tap water as a drinking water source, they must be boiled before drinking to ensure the safety of drinking water and their health.
