Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to deploy nuclear weapons in Belarus to strike Lithuania and Poland.

It will do so if the West does not take preemptive action.

Historian Yuriy Felshtynskyi expressed this opinion in a conversation with the Russian oppositionist, lawyer Mark Feigin.

The historian explained that it is possible to threaten the West with nuclear weapons from Russia, for this it is not necessary to transfer them to Belarus.

"It is being transferred in one single case - to carry out a nuclear attack. I declare absolutely responsibly that

no later than September of this year, nuclear strikes will be carried out from Belarus on Lithuania and Poland,

if the West does not take preventive actions in this direction," Felshtynskyi said.

He added that the possibility of using Belarus as a springboard for a nuclear attack is the only reason why Putin does not annex this state.

"If there were any red lines that Putin should not have crossed, or the crossing of which means literally catastrophic consequences for Europe, then this red line has already been crossed by Putin," the historian noted.

At the same time, he expressed his belief that in response to a nuclear strike from Belarus, it will simply be destroyed.

It will be recalled that on March 24, Putin announced the completion of the construction of a storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus in the summer.

He also said that Russia could place its tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.

Commenting on Putin's statement, Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anushauskas said that he was trying to intimidate Ukraine's allies in this way.

The minister also advised not to pay attention to such statements.

At the same time, Polish MFA spokesman Lukasz Jasina said that such a decision by Putin further increases tensions in connection with the war against Ukraine, and is an increased threat to peace in Europe and the whole world.
