, the police detained eight people as part of an investigation into preparations for committing a terrorist act on the territory of the country.

about this

with reference to the Belgian federal prosecutor's office.

Police raids were carried out on the evening of Monday, March 27, in Brussels, the port city of Antwerp and the border town of Eupen.

An AFP source informed that the arrested persons are "very young radical people" who are suspected of belonging to the jihadist movement.

Two separate investigations led to these arrests.

One was conducted by the federal police in Brussels and the other by an investigating judge in Antwerp.

It is known that there is a connection between the two cases, but further investigation should show the extent to which the two groups were connected.

The sources also said that the attackers probably planned even more than one attack, but the ultimate goal and objectives of the attackers are yet to be determined.

The trial of nine suspects in the March 2016 suicide bombings, which killed 32 people, is currently underway in Brussels.

As a reminder,

security measures are being tightened in Vienna - terrorist acts in churches are possible.
