Election Commission officials talking to the media in Guwahati

New Delhi:

The Election Commission has given a sharp reaction to the question raised by the Congress State President on the Election Commission regarding the delimitation in Assam.

The Congress, in a crucial meeting with the Election Commission, alleged that the Assam delimitation process was a "premeditated move" and that there was 'match-fixing' between the Election Commission and the BJP on the issue.

Talking to the media on the allegation of the Congress party, Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar said that the Election Commission does not take instructions from anyone.

As a commission, our process rests on two foundations - disclosure and participation." The commission works within the legal framework, adhering to the principles of justice.

Significantly, Assam Congress chief Bhupen Bora had said that he had gone to Delhi and submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission.

Where he had raised many doubts regarding the redefinition of the boundaries of the district but the Election Commission has not yet given any answer.

He had said, 'We are ready to meet and discuss with the Election Commission, but first we need answers to our questions.

Congress MLA and Leader of the Opposition in Assam Debabrata Saikia said on Monday that now he is giving only 10-15 minutes and we do not think there is any benefit in meeting him for such a short time.

On the whole matter, the Chief Election Commissioner insisted that he wanted to consult all political parties.

He told that before any other party, the Congress party was given time to meet in January itself.
