The representative of the National Security Council of the White House,
John Kirby
, said that the United States is monitoring the implementation of Russian President
Vladimir Putin's
statements about the deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus.
"We have seen no signs that he has followed through on that promise or moved nuclear weapons.
In fact, we have not seen any signs that he intends to use nuclear weapons against Ukraine," said John Kirby on CBS.
According to him, such a reaction of Russia is probably related to the reports of Great Britain's intention to transfer shells with depleted uranium to Ukraine.
"There is no radioactive threat from shells with depleted uranium, which are often used on the battlefield.
Even Russia uses such projectiles," the representative of the White House explained.
On March 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on the air of the Rossiya-24 TV channel that the construction of a storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus will be completed on July 1.
According to him,
Alexander Lukashenko
has long been asking him to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.
In addition, Moscow has already transferred to Minsk the Iskander missile complex, which can use this weapon.
The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine ,
Oleksiy Danilov
, said that the deployment of nuclear weapons is a step towards "the internal destabilization of the country and maximally increases the level of negative perception and general rejection of Russia and Putin in Belarusian society."
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine demanded to urgently convene a meeting of the UN Security Council in connection with Putin's statement about the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in Belarus.
