The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania said that they are closely monitoring the situation surrounding the Russian President's statement about Russia's plans to deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.

"We see this as another attempt by two unpredictable dictatorial regimes to threaten their neighbors and the entire European continent.

These are desperate steps by Putin and Lukashenka aimed at creating another wave of tension and destabilization in Europe," the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Similar actions further involve Belarus in the war against Ukraine and the confrontation with the democratic world, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry believes.

"An additional risk factor for the Baltic region is Belarus, which is increasingly losing its sovereignty, supports and helps Russian aggression, and is increasingly integrated into Russian military plans.

Together with its Euro-Atlantic partners, Lithuania will decide how to respond to these militaristic plans of the Russian and Belarusian regimes," the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry noted.

On March 25 ,

Vladimir Putin

announced that Russia will deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus.

According to Putin,

Alexander Lukashenko

has long asked him to deploy such weapons in the country.

As the President of Russia stated, the construction of a storage facility for tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus should be completed by July 1.

In addition, the Iskander missile complex, which can use this weapon, and aircraft that can carry nuclear missiles have been transferred to Belarus.
