[Reporter Wei Jinyun/Taipei Report] The Taoyuan baboon continues to escape. The Forestry Bureau of the Agriculture Committee of the Executive Yuan stated today that after the baboon is "caught", it will be sent to the Taipei Municipal Zoo or the Pingtung University of Science and Technology Wildlife Shelter Center for resettlement.

The zoo said that it has been cooperating with the Forestry Bureau to contain animals that are smuggled and privately raised by the public. If the Forestry Bureau decides to hand over the captured baboons to the zoo for resettlement, it will fully cooperate.

On the 10th of this month, some people witnessed a baboon walking on the street in Pingzhen District, Taoyuan City. Although the "Big Baboon Zhouzhang" continued to hunt after the Taoyuan City Government Agriculture Bureau received the report, it was still unable to capture it, and the footprints of the baboon are all over the place. In Pingzhen, Yangmei and Xinwu districts, they also broke into the vegetable gardens of residents to eat cabbage and sweet potatoes to fill their stomachs. Yesterday, they were found staying at the Fugang base of the Taiwan Railway for about 2 hours before leaving.

The Forest Service stated that the baboon has been "wandering" among the people for almost 3 weeks, and is currently the longest-running conservation animal. After the baboon is "arrested", if it is determined that the baboon is privately raised by the public, the local competent authority will punish it. And send it to Taipei Zoo or Pingda Wildlife Shelter Center for resettlement.

Taipei Zoo responded to this. The competent authority of the zoo is the Forestry Bureau. For a long time, the zoo has cooperated to assist in the containment and detection of smuggled or privately raised wild animals. If the Forestry Bureau evaluates the geographical relationship or the most suitable site, It was decided to send the captured baboons to the zoo for resettlement, and we must fully cooperate.
