Russian dictator Vladimir Putin is putting forward an unrealistic plan to deploy nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus, given the fact that construction of the bases has not yet begun.

The Guardian

writes about it

.

They noted that Putin's statements about the intention to deploy nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus may remain empty statements.

The newspaper's journalists recalled that in February 2022, Putin ordered the "deterrence forces" responsible for nuclear weapons to be on high alert, but no changes in behavior or warhead movements were observed.

The publication noted that Putin and Lukashenko had been preparing for such a step for some time.

Lukashenko changed the constitution and allowed nuclear weapons to be placed on his territory a year ago.

Now Putin says that Belarusian pilots will learn to fly planes with such weapons starting in April, and by the first of July, warehouses will be built on the territory of Belarus, in which tactical nuclear weapons will be placed.

Experts are skeptical of such ambitious plans of Putin and note that Russia has been working on the creation of a storage facility for nuclear weapons in the territory of the Kaliningrad region for 7 years and it is still unclear whether the weapons have arrived there.

However, if similar works can be recorded on the territory of the Kaliningrad region, they were not noticed in Belarus.

Hans Christensen, director of the Nuclear Information Project of the Federation of American Scientists, said he had inspected some of the alleged sites and saw nothing to indicate a nuclear storage facility was being built.

"But it cannot be ruled out. You can have no doubt that many people are now studying every meter in Belarus," he said.

The publication also recalled that Putin said last week that he would "react" to Britain's transfer of depleted uranium shells to Ukraine, although it had nothing to do with nuclear weapons.

Last week, Putin together with the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, declared that "All states possessing nuclear weapons should refrain from deploying them abroad, as well as withdraw nuclear weapons that are already deployed abroad."

The publication writes that it is about agreements between the US and five allies on the joint use of nuclear weapons: Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy and Turkey.

Under this agreement, the US keeps B61 gravity bombs (about 100 in total) in these countries, and their aircrews are trained to fly the planes carrying these bombs in case of nuclear war.

Russia claims this violates the 1968 Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

"These agreements technically do not violate the NPT, as they existed before the signing of the treaty. The Soviet Union accepted them. Especially since at that time Moscow could place its nuclear weapons in Belarus or any other Soviet republic. But when Belarus, Ukraine and other republics became independent, she lost this right," the publication emphasizes.

It will be recalled that earlier the representative of the press service of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Andriy Yusov, stated that

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin out of desperation is resorting to direct nuclear blackmail

, because he will be defeated on the battlefield in the war.

In addition, we previously informed that

the reaction of Western countries and the introduction of new sanctions will have no effect on Russia's decision to deploy nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus
