The Ministry of Water has said that President Samia Suluhu Hassan is giving importance to the agenda of access to clean and safe water, recognizing that it will contribute to the upliftment of girls and women so that they can spend more time in education and economic activities.

The Minister of Water, Jumaa Aweso said this during the discussion on Leadership and Management of Water Issues which was organized by various countries including Tanzania and South Africa.

The debate also involved various international organizations including GWP, UNICEF and UNDP and was attended by Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete, the retired President of the United Republic of Tanzania who is also the Chairman of GWPSA and Co-Chairman of the Panel of Famous Leaders on Investment in the Sector Water.

Aweso said that the leadership of President Samia is careful in the agenda by increasing the pressure and political will, increasing the water budget and strengthening institutions related to the management of water services and the implementation of water projects.

Aweso previously represented President Samia at the United Nations (UN) Conference on water held at the United Nations, New York in the United States.

Aweso addressed the meeting and noted the importance of the world staying together and managing the water agenda, the value of water in life and the economy, increasing investment in the water area, international cooperation in water and the search for funds for water.

In the meeting, Tanzania carried two agendas which are the implementation of the Water Sector Development Program III (Water Sector Development Programe III) which requires 6.47 billion US dollars in the period 2022-2025.

Similarly, Tanzania had an investment agenda in the Water Sector to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations (Tanzania Water Investment Program 2023-2030).

The program expected to be launched in May this year is estimated to have a budget of more than 25 billion US dollars.
