What is the date of Radonitsa in 2023

According to the church calendar, Radonitsa is connected with the celebration of Easter and falls on the ninth day after this great holiday and is celebrated every year on a Tuesday.

In 2023, Easter will be April 16, and therefore

Radonitsa will be April 25

What can't be done on Radonitsa

It is strictly forbidden to shout loudly, have fun, or laugh while visiting the cemetery.

Believers have a belief that, leaving the cemetery, one should never look back.

There is a danger of capturing the soul of the deceased and bringing it home with you.

You can't take cigarettes to the cemetery, smoke them there.

The church prohibits infants, pregnant women, and children under seven years of age from visiting the cemetery.

According to folk beliefs, a young soul makes the deceased remember their earthly life and can cause envy.

And therefore the dead can try to take her to themselves.

Although most Ukrainians like to have meals at cemeteries, it is strictly forbidden to do so.

This is a place to remember relatives who have already left this world, to pray for their repose.

Memorial dinners are better to do at home, if there is such a desire.

You should not bring plastic flowers to graves - they are harmful to the environment.

It is also better not to leave eggs, pieces of pasture, other food that attracts animals in the cemetery.

How to commemorate Radonitsa: what to take to the cemetery

Fresh flowers or dried flowers must be brought to the cemetery.

Bouquets of consecrated willow are very popular among believers.

You can plant real plants near the grave in advance.

Lamps are also welcome - they must be lit.

The church recommends bringing candles with black ribbons to the cemetery.

If you really want to bring treats to the cemetery (eggs, paska, meat dishes, etc.), then it is better to give them to the beggars after the commemoration.

Before going to the graves of their relatives, believers go to the church and pray there for their repose.
