Protesting against pension reform in France, union representatives forced the Louvre museum to close its doors, Reuters reported.

Blocking access to the museum angered the crowds of visitors, BTA reports.

The demonstrations are against plans by President Emmanuel Macron to raise the minimum retirement age by two years to 64 to balance the pension budget.

Several dozen protestors against the reform have blocked access to the glass pyramid of the Louvre.

One of the slogans reads "Retire at 60 - work less to live longer".

A queue of disappointed tourists is winding up in the museum courtyard.

"It's a shame we can't get in," said a tourist from Australia, adding: "I can understand people doing this for political reasons."

The proposed pension reform has sparked national strike action and street demonstrations across the country.

Protests in France delayed Charles III's visit

The Paris police have announced that they are doing what is necessary to prevent blocking access to another iconic museum in the city - the Pompidou.

We hope you are understanding, one of the museum guides addressed visitors to the Louvre.

Well done.
