On March 27, 2023, a telephone conversation took place between the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, and the Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, Karen Donfried.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA that during the telephone conversation, the parties discussed the current issues of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, the current situation in the region, as well as the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Minister Jeyhun Bayramov informed about the latest situation in the region, including the latest provocations by Armenia, which continues to transport personnel and military ammunition to the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan, and the steps taken by our country against these provocations without using force.

The importance of establishing a border-crossing checkpoint between Azerbaijan and Armenia at the beginning of the Lachin road in order to prevent illegal activities in the territories of Azerbaijan was once again noted.

The minister also drew attention to the unconstructive approaches of Armenia, which obstructed the negotiations on the peace agreement, and emphasized that Azerbaijan is ready to start the negotiations on the peace agreement at any time.

Karen Donfried, in her turn, emphasized the importance of the normalization of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia for regional peace and development.

Concern was expressed over the recently tense situation in the region and a call was made to resolve all misunderstandings through negotiations.

It was stated that the US side is ready to support the process.

At the end of the phone conversation, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov wished Karen Donfrid, who will leave her current position soon, success in her future activities.
