In Kyiv, they dismantled a Soviet plane, which for many years was placed in the yard of school No. 5 in the capital's Pechersk.

The school is located near the Hryshko National Botanical Garden on Sadovo-Botanichna street (former name Tymiryazevska).

Alla Shlapak, deputy of the Kyiv City Council, wrote about the dismantling on her page in the social network.

The plane, as well as the five-pointed star on which it was attached, were cut with autogen at the weekend

"Finally. The territory of the 5th school is finally decommunized! The plane that annoyed everyone and everyone has been sent after the Russian ship!" - wrote the deputy.

But, as it turned out, this news outraged many Kyivans.

People write on social networks that the plane did not need to be cleaned.

They also note that it would be more expedient to give it to a museum, rather than turn it into scrap metal.

"It's sad to watch... Because it was the only plane to Kyiv near my school... Why it was removed is not clear, Ukrainians did a lot in the Second World War and it was like a memory... Sad," - write in the Network

"It's a shame about the old plane. Dream engineers who are now making all kinds of little birds for the Armed Forces could have been educated on it," the contributors note.

"This plane was not on anyone's balance sheet. They demanded money for its dismantling, so people were found who dismantled it for free. Now in its place there will be a playground, which is needed for the elementary school of this educational institution. The plane was dismantled because it was a symbol of the Soviet era. In addition, during the war, the school principal constantly raised the question of its dismantling. The school became a live target, because it is a model of a real plane. From the point of view of safety, it had to be done. Besides, the plane was standing on a giant Soviet star. Isn't this a symbol of communism? For me, yes," Alla Shlapak, a member of the Kyiv City Council, tells TSN.ua.

The deputy adds that they offered to give the plane to the Aviation Museum, but there they refused such an exhibit, adding that they already have such a specimen.

"Accordingly, the plane had to be cut in order to free up the territory and prepare it for the children's development. There will be a playground in its place, maybe even this year. This place should become a symbol of childhood, not war. Now the school is undergoing reconstruction of the bomb shelter, and work is also underway from waterproofing around the educational institution, because the building is quite old. Repair of the facade and improvement of the territory are planned. The playground for the primary school is very relevant here, nearby is a viburnum and lilac grove, which was planted by children," adds Alla Shlapak.

We will remind, last week in Kyiv, 16 more streets, alleys, avenues and boulevards were renamed, the names of which are related to Russia and the Soviet past.
