"Voice of America" writes about it.

Powerful tornadoes

claimed at least 26 lives and destroyed dozens of buildings, leaving hundreds of local residents stranded.

75,000 people were left without electricity, but the power supply has already been partially restored.

The tornado hit the city of Rolling Fork the hardest: residential blocks were turned into piles of debris, cars were gutted, and the city's water tower was knocked down there.

Local firefighter Rodney Porter said he didn't know how anyone managed to survive: "It was like a bomb went off."

Meteorologists say that the tornado was of rare strength, because it raged for more than an hour and swept through the territory of more than 274 kilometers.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Dean Criswell have now traveled to the affected state.
