[Reporter Wang Rongxiang/Kaohsiung Report] The old city of Fengshan County in Zuoying, Kaohsiung, "The Way of Seeing the City" is scheduled to open today (26th), and the nighttime lighting scene has been exposed first; The promenade is by no means another trendy net beauty attraction, but an important corridor that reconnects Kaohsiung's 300-year-old history.

How to live shows that after Zhu Yigui's rebellion in 1722, Liu Guangsi, the magistrate of Fengshan County in the Qing Dynasty, built Taiwan's first earthen city in Xinglongzhuang, Zuoying without the permission of the imperial court. The barrier was not set up on the mountain, so when the Lin Shuangwen incident broke out in 1786, the militiamen crossed Guishan, forcing Fengshan County to move to Xincheng (Fengshan).

When the old city was rebuilt in 1826, it was changed to a quarry city. The city wall was "let the snakes catch the turtles", and the Snake Mountain was discarded.

In the early days of Japanese occupation, the old city did not change much. However, in the 1920s, due to the opening of the Zuoying Road, the demolition of the city walls around the south gate, and the demolition of a section of the city wall near the north gate to facilitate traffic in the old city, the large and small Guishan Mountains were cut off.

During the Pacific War in the 1940s, the settlements in the old city of Zuoying and the settlements in the west of the city were forced to relocate and opened up as a military port. After World War II, it was taken over by the Kuomintang government and became a military facility and a village for military dependents. Part of the city wall around the west gate was buried in private houses.

Since 2016, one of the key points of the Ministry of Culture's promotion of the "Seeing the City Project" is to reproduce the geographical location of the city wall. The road of seeing the city starts from the inside of the old city and the outside of the city hall, and goes north along the old city wall through the woods and crosses Shengli Road. There are trails connecting the large and small Guishan Mountains to the north gate, with a total length of about 770 meters. Visitors can witness how the city developed on the strength of Guishan Mountain, and also appreciate the geographical importance of the old city connecting mountains and lakes.

The footpath connects more than half of the outline of the old city. In the next stage, the Gaoshi government will continue to seek funding from the central government to promote the second phase of the project, extending the way to see the city and making the ancient city more complete.

It is recommended to strengthen surrounding transportation and sightseeing supporting measures, introduce a more friendly public transportation and walking environment, combine the themed sightseeing of local culture and history, and evolve the hotel and commercial functions, so that tourists can stay in Zuoying for a longer period of time. The in-depth tour allows more people to know Kaohsiung and the century-old scenery buried under the urban landscape.
