ISW believes that the offensive of the Russian invaders in
Ukraine
is reaching its climax.
To prevent this, the regular army of the Russian Federation can intervene in the offensive actions of the mercenaries of the "Wagner" PMC in the Bakhmut direction.
This is stated in a report by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
ISW experts emphasize that the Russian offensive in Ukraine is reaching its end.
However, they note that on March 25, Ukrainian and Western officials expressed different views on the situation with the Russian offensive in Bakhmut, "but all agree with the assessment that Russian efforts in this direction are likely to reach a climax."
According to the ISW, the statements of British intelligence, the spokesman of the Eastern Group of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Serhiy Cherevaty and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny regarding the situation in Bakhmut are "not mutually exclusive."
"Russian forces can continue frequent and aggressive attacks on Bakhmut, even if the offensive ends with almost no success, because a climax does not mean no fighting. Russian attacks in and around Bakhmut can resume at high levels without bringing significant new gains, if the regular Russian army really will join the battle," the report says.
Analysts note that the involvement of the Russian army could even prevent the culmination of the attack and create significant operational progress for the aggressor, but such possibilities are currently unlikely.
It will be recalled that American analysts emphasize that
the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted a successful counteroffensive north of Bakhmut.
Ukrainian defenders managed to recapture part of the territory along the E40 highway.
