The Punjab government has invoked the stringent National Security Act against Amritpal and some of his associates.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh on Saturday asked fugitive radical Amritpal Singh to surrender before the police and cooperate in the investigation.
The Jathedar of Akal Takht also questioned the capability of the police and said that despite having such a huge force why they have not been able to catch Amritpal.
The Jathedar said, "If Amritpal is out (of police custody), I will ask him to appear and cooperate with the (police) investigation."
Singh's remarks came in the wake of the state police crackdown against hardline separatist Amritpal and the organization 'Waris Punjab De' led by him.
Amritpal is absconding since March 18.

The Jathedar said in a video message on Saturday that the biggest question in the mind of every Sikh living across the world is that despite having such a huge police force in the state, how could Amritpal not be arrested.
He said that this raises questions on the functioning of the police.
Singh said that if Amritpal has already been arrested then the police should be informed.
Jathedar Singh has called a special meeting of 60 to 70 Sikh organizations, religious organizations and Nihang organizations to discuss the situation in Punjab.
No representative of political organizations has been called in the meeting.
