According to the report of APA referring to "The Japan Times", the modernization will be carried out in order to obtain the technical capabilities to place the US "Tomahawk" cruise missiles on destroyers.

The Japanese government plans to complete the modernization of destroyers by 2027.

It is noted that this step will be taken within the framework of the development of the counter-attack potential of the country's Self-Defense Forces against the background of the updated national security strategy.
