The National Guard of Ukraine existed as an independent force structure from 1991 to 2000.

Then it was disbanded and revived again in 2014 after the illegal occupation of Crimea and the worsening of the situation in eastern Ukraine.

The main task of the National Guard of Ukraine is to guarantee public safety and order, to protect the rights, lives, legitimate interests and freedoms of Ukrainians, the state and society.

Also, members of the National Guard took part in an anti-terrorist operation and are helping the Armed Forces to deal with Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

In 2015, the National Guard of Ukraine received its national holiday, which was designated by the Decree of the President of Ukraine for March 26.
