In the city of St. Paul, Minnesota,

USA

, the prosecutor's office brought charges against 40-year-old Robert Castillo - he stabbed his 41-year-old wife to death while reading the Bible.

The deceased left five children.

CBS Minnesota writes about it.

Police arrived at the residence around 9pm on Tuesday, March 21, following a call about a person being injured.

Inside the house, they found Corinna Woodhull with serious injuries to her torso, chest and arms.

At that time, her husband was held on the floor by several people.

The woman received medical aid and was taken to a regional hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Castillo's sister told police that she holds a Bible study at home every Tuesday with family members.

According to her, the man and the woman came to her house, sat down together on the sofa, then Castillo whispered something in the wife's ear, then pulled out a knife and stabbed her several times.

Another witness said that Castillo would have killed other family members if he had not been disarmed.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Woodhull's death a homicide due to multiple stab wounds.

According to police, Castillo already had another warrant out for his arrest and recently failed to appear for a pretrial hearing on a charge of fourth-degree assault in Washington County.

He allegedly attacked a prison guard while incarcerated.

He also has eight prior felony convictions, including first-degree assault, second-degree assault, possession of a firearm and theft.

The man was also previously convicted of second-degree assault - he beat the mother of his child with a hammer, causing serious bodily injury.

During the testimony, the accused said that he and his wife had been officially married for several years, but had not lived together for a month, without explaining the reason.

Castillo's brother, who was also at the Bible study, told police the couple was having marital problems.

If the man is found guilty of murder, he faces up to 40 years in prison.
