Poland is ready to strengthen the trade restrictions introduced against Belarus if Minsk continues its policy of repression.

This was stated by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, BTA reported, citing the Polish news agency PAP.

"We are closing more border crossings or at least limiting them even more," Morawiecki told the private Polish radio station RMF FM today.

"We are acting in response to the actions of (Belarusian President Alexander) Lukashenko and he is aware of that."

"I recently met in Poland with the wife of Ales Białacki, a Nobel Prize winner, who told me how brutal Lukashenko is to anyone who even the slightest bit disagrees with his brutal regime," he continued.

"Poland must react".

The prime minister also announced that he will discuss with Lithuania the issue of its non-compliance with EU sanctions against Belarus for more than two months.

"Sometimes it pays to take one step back to take three steps forward," he added.

Belarus is "an important transfer point for Russian goods and is worth blocking," Moravetsky concluded.
