The court has also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the convict.

Kottayam:

A local court in Kerala on Friday sentenced a man to death for killing an elderly couple related to him in 2013.

The Additional Sessions Court sentenced Arun Sasi to death for killing his relative Thankamma (68) and her husband Bhaskaran Nair (71) with the intention of robbing them.

The court, while awarding the death sentence, observed that the convict, who had to protect the elderly couple as their daughters were abroad.

He committed a brutal murder which cannot be justified.

Along with this, the court has also imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the convict.

He was also sentenced to seven and five years' rigorous imprisonment for using a deadly weapon to commit robbery and house-trespass to commit an offense punishable with death, respectively.

This incident is of 28 September 2013.

Additional prosecutor K Jitesh said the convict reached the couple's house and brutally attacked Nair and his wife with a hammer.

He said that Shashi was arrested in a theft case, after which his role in the murder came to light.
