The republican alliance of Turkish President Recep Erdogan has expanded today, reported the state television TRT, quoted by BTA.

The Islamist New Prosperity Party joined the Republican Alliance today.

"We - the New Prosperity Party, have decided to join the Republican Alliance for the May 14 elections in the interest of our people and homeland," said the formation's vice-chairman Bayram Sakartepe.

Parliamentary and presidential elections will be held in Turkey on May 14.

Representatives of the four parties in the alliance submitted today to the High Electoral Commission a relevant protocol for participation in the parliamentary elections.

Until now, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), the Nationalist Action Party (PND), and the Great Union party have been included in the composition of the Republican Alliance.

The far-right Sunni Islamist political group HUDA-PAR also announced this week that it may support the Republican Alliance in the parliamentary elections, but added that discussions were underway on exactly how to shape the alliance.
