The pilot of the American airline company Southwest Airlines needed emergency medical help during the flight - he was replaced by a passenger of the flight who was a pilot of another airline.

This is reported by CNN.

The incident happened on a flight from Las Vegas to Columbus (Ohio).

A passenger stepped in to help the flight crew after one of the pilots on duty required emergency medical treatment.

"A certified pilot from another airline on board entered the cockpit and assisted with radio communications while our other pilot flew the aircraft. We greatly appreciate their support and assistance," said Chris Perry, a spokesman for the airline.

After safely returning to Las Vegas, a backup crew boarded and the plane continued on its route as planned.

The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident.

It will be recalled that the Indian airline SpiceJet suspended the flight of two of its

pilots

after they arranged a snack in the cockpit.
