Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership is in danger of being canceled

New Delhi:

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi arrived at the Parliament House this morning amid the threat of cancellation of his Lok Sabha membership following his two-year jail term in a defamation case.

However, he left after the Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon amid protests.

Rahul Gandhi, MP from Kerala's Wayanad, was on Thursday convicted and sentenced to two years in jail by Gujarat's Surat district court for his alleged remark on 'Modi surname'.

The Surat district court has given him bail for 30 days to appeal against the verdict.

According to Section 8(3) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, if an MP is convicted of an offense and sentenced to a minimum of two years' imprisonment, he or she attracts disqualification.
