[Reporter Liu Yuqing/Penghu Report] Every year around Qingming Festival is the spawning season of small octopuses unique to Penghu. Therefore, the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Penghu County Government announced that March 29 to April 12 every year is a no-fishing period for the unique species of octopus in Penghu.

At the same time, in order to restore marine resources, the official resources are limited and the people's power is endless. The Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries is recruiting cooperation from all walks of life to join the ranks of restoring coral reefs.

Penghu’s unique species of small octopus has suffered from overfishing and the accumulation of coral reef debris in recent years, and the number is decreasing day by day. The Agriculture and Fisheries Bureau of the Penghu County Government sets a fishing ban every year around Qingming and during the spawning period of the unique species of small octopus. Some people sneaked away out of covetousness. Therefore, during the fishing ban period, the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries, the Criminal Police Department of the County Police Department, and the Coast Guard Department will conduct patrols and arrests in various intertidal zones, demonstrating the determination of the county government to implement the law.

In addition, the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries hopes to invite the public to participate in the conservation work and work together to protect the unique species of octopus in Penghu. During the fishing ban period, the investigators will conduct full-time inspections at sea, land, markets and restaurants. Violators can be punished for less than 3 years in accordance with the Fisheries Law Fixed-term imprisonment, criminal detention or a fine of NT$150,000 or less.

The Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries appeals to all walks of life to abide by the fishing ban, and not to fall into the law by chance.

At the same time, the coral reefs in the Penghu sea area are extremely famous, and shoulder the restoration of fishery resources and the development of tourism. They are the two major economic lifelines of Penghu. At present, the Bureau of Agriculture and Fisheries has successfully created the Coral Sea Garden in Hangang Bay, introducing eco-tourism, bringing tourists related experience and education.

In order to replicate the successful case of the Coral Ocean Garden and build Penghu into a marine eco-tourism paradise, interested groups in the county are invited to participate in the restoration of the coral reef sea area, and the participation of the community and citizens is introduced.
