Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni responded to the call of a deputy from the "Five Star Movement" (M5S) party to stop the supply of weapons to Ukraine and start so-called "negotiations" with Russia.

This is reported by Rai News.

During an address to the Chamber of Deputies on March 22, Maloney said that ending support for Ukraine would mean betraying Italy's position and approving the Russian invasion.

Maloney also advised Eliza Scutella to contact the head of the Kremlin.

"Tell that to Putin, Mrs. Scutella. Why are you telling us this?... Let's call a spade a spade. If we stop, we will approve the invasion of Ukraine. I am not so hypocritical as to cover the word "invasion" with the word "peace". So on "In my opinion, we should not be endorsing the invasion of Ukraine. That doesn't mean we shouldn't be working on a peace plan," Maloney replied.

She emphasized that she added that the situation is actually "more complicated than the propaganda tries to portray."

She also asked, rather, a rhetorical question: what could be the conditions for negotiations with the aggressor country.

"Do you think that in order to start negotiations, Russia should stop hostilities and withdraw its troops from the territory of Ukraine? Or that the borders of Ukraine should be revised, that Moscow should return the territories occupied by it, where the so-called referendum on self-determination was held? I would like to hear the answer , if we're serious about peace. Otherwise, it's nothing more than propaganda at the expense of a sovereign nation, a free people, and international law, and it's irresponsible," Maloney said.

We will remind that on February 21, the Prime Minister of Italy

Giorgia Maloni met with

the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi in Kyiv and announced a new aid package for Ukraine.
