The Parliament of Denmark voted today in support of the country's accession to the European Defense Agency and the Permanent Structured Cooperation, reported DPA and TASS.

The decision was made after 30 years of Denmark refusing to participate in defense cooperation in the European Union.

The European Defense Agency was founded in 2004 with headquarters in Brussels and covers all EU countries except Denmark.

The agency is the coordinating body for the EU's common security and defense policy.

Permanent Structured Cooperation is a framework that facilitates the organization of joint military projects in the EU.

"One of the first things that Denmark can get involved in will be the voluntary cooperation project in the defense agency for the joint procurement of ammunition for Ukraine," said Trolls Lund Poulsen, Denmark's acting defense minister.

In a referendum last year, Denmark removed its special rule that excluded it from EU defense cooperation.

This happened after Russia invaded Ukraine.

Because of this rule, Denmark, a member of NATO, has so far not participated in EU military missions or joint weapons development.

Exclusion from defense cooperation was a condition for the country's accession to the EU in 1993, notes BTA
