The Lt Governor chaired a meeting to find out ways for the revival of Najafgarh Lake.

New Delhi:

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Wednesday said there is a need to stop the discharge of 110 million gallons of domestic and industrial waste per day into the Najafgarh lake and coordination with Haryana is needed to resolve the issue.

The LG has also directed the officials to chalk out a strategy to revive the lake.

According to an official statement, Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena chaired a meeting to find ways to revive the Najafgarh lake.

The Lieutenant Governor stressed on the implementation of the nine-point future action plan in a time-bound manner.

"During the meeting, the LG emphasized the need for immediate action to stop the discharge of about 110 million gallons per day (MGD) of domestic and industrial waste into the Najafgarh lake," the statement said.

General VK Singh again rejected the report of Manmohan Singh government's 'coup' in 2012

According to the statement, the major sources of pollution in the Najafgarh lake, which include large amounts of domestic and industrial waste, come from Gurugram.

The revival of the Najafgarh lake is part of the Yamuna cleaning works being carried out under the LG's supervision, as per the January 9 directions of the National Green Tribunal.

Efforts to clean the Najafgarh drain have started showing results with a significant improvement in water quality in Wazirabad.

Similarly, the Yamuna cleaning campaign at Kudsia Ghat has also improved the water quality.

"Saxena called for smooth inter-state coordination between Delhi and Haryana to address the issue. He asked the Gurgaon administration to ensure that only treated effluent is released into the lake," the statement said.

Gurugram officials informed the LG that 100 per cent sewage treatment work would be completed by January next year.
