The earthquake in Turkey and Syria 628

Defense Minister Dimitar Stoyanov

Dimitar Stoyanov was born on October 28, 1968 in Svilengrad.

In 1986, today, March 23, military personnel from the 16th Vrajdebna Air Base and medics from the Military Medical Academy, who participated in the activities to help the victims of the great earthquake in the Republic of Turkey in early February, graduated with awards.

“You have shown heroism in peacetime.

You have shown that the Bulgarian Army can be relied on at any moment.

Thanks to you, we have shown our neighbors that they can count on us."

With these words, Minister Stoyanov addressed the awardees.

He recalled that thanks to the quick and professional work of the servicemen, an organization was created for the transport of equipment, rescue teams and medics to the aid of neighboring Turkey in just two hours on February 6.

"This is another proof that the Bulgarian Army can be relied on in difficult times.

We proved it in Karlovsko, we proved it after the earthquake, we prove it with every medical evacuation flight with the participation of our medics.

People rely on us, and this is thanks to your skills, thanks to the fact that you have proven that you can cope with any complex tasks at any time", stressed Minister Stoyanov.

He expressed personal gratitude to each of the honored servicemen.

"We know that we can always count on you," addressed the Chief of Defense Admiral Emil Eftimov to the awarded servicemen.

"I have always claimed that the Bulgarian Army is close to the people with its actions on the third mission of our Armed Forces, but at that moment we were also close to our neighbors in fraternal Turkey," he emphasized.

Admiral Eftimov pointed out that for our country to be one of the countries that first responded after the devastating earthquakes in our southern neighbor, the main merit goes to the trained aviation, engineering-technical and ground staff of the Air Force and the teams from the Military Medical Academy.

"We reacted in a timely manner because we have serviceable equipment, worked out procedures and are training to be ready for such actions," the chief of defense pointed out.

Admiral Eftimov introduced the awarded servicemen with the letter of thanks received from the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Turkey, Army General Yasar Güler.

In it, he expresses his gratitude for the valuable support that Bulgaria has provided to their country, as well as his wishes for the health and well-being of the Bulgarian military personnel.

Lieutenant Colonel Plamen Donchev, Captain Nikolay Georgiev, Major Miroslav Pipev, Captain Lyubomir Kirilov, Major Tsvetan Stanimirov, Captain Sinan Emin, Sergeant Maria Borisova and Junior Sergeant Iliya Dekov were awarded with awards.

The solemn ceremony was attended by members of the leadership of the Ministry of Defense and the Defense Headquarters, senior officers of the Bulgarian Army.
