The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that the European Union condemns the illegal threat by the deputy head of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, to use force against the International Criminal Court and the Netherlands.

This was reported by the press service of the Diplomatic Service of the European Union.

Borrell emphasized that the EU condemns the measures announced by Russia against the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court and the judges involved in issuing warrants for the arrest of Russian representatives.

"

The EU confirms its full support for the ICC

. Any retaliatory measures against those who participate in the work of the ICC are unacceptable. Leading the fight against impunity, the ICC must be able to work independently and impartially," the press service of the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs quotes and politics.

Borrell added that, as before, the EU is committed to protecting the ICC from any external interference aimed at obstructing justice and undermining the international criminal justice system.

"The EU will continue to advocate for the universality of the Rome Statute and will offer all states that have not yet done so to consider

joining the ICC in order to put an end to impunity for the most serious crimes

," said the head of EU diplomacy.

It will be recalled that on March 17, the ICC issued a warrant for the arrest of Russian President Vladimir Putin for the "illegal deportation" of Ukrainian children.

In addition, an arrest warrant was also issued for the Commissioner for Children's Rights in the Russian Federation Maria Lvova-Belova.

On March 20, Medvedev threatened that attempts to try the president of a nuclear state in the International Criminal Court would have "terrible consequences" for international law.

He also said that Russia could respond with a missile attack on the ISS building.
