Bulgaria is represented by the mayor of Gabrovo Tanya Hristova, the executive director and founder of Dronamics Svilen Rangelov and the co-founder of Sofia2Go Svetoslava Simeonova.

"Europe has strengths in terms of the fourth wave of innovation.

With the new European Innovation Programme, we aim to turn these strengths into opportunities for business.

Our strength is talent, strategic investments, innovation ecosystems, a favorable business environment and a solid industrial base.

The challenge now is to make these business opportunities attractive to investors and talent in Silicon Valley," said Maria Gabriel

Maria Gabriel: Innovation and education are at the heart of our ambition to double Europe's hydrogen valleys by 2025.

Regarding talent, the Bulgarian European Commissioner emphasized that there are over 1 million scientific researchers and over 17.5 million people in higher education in the EU, and 20% of all patents in the world contributing to the green and digital transition are European.

In 2021, a record 110 billion euros were invested in European startups, and in 2022, despite the difficult environment, the investment level is 85 billion euros.

For the first time, Europe is on par with the US in terms of investment in early-stage startups.

"With the ambition of 100 regional innovation valleys, Europe gives a request for opportunities for startups in each region", commented Maria Gabriel.

From 2023, startups have the opportunity to use the so-called

experimentation spaces and “living labs” that will allow them to test and commercialize their product faster.

"At the heart of the new innovation program are talents, skills and knowledge.

Europe needs to support its talents, but also to become an attractive destination.

To encourage innovators to choose to grow their business in Europe, we are introducing the new 'deep tech' talent platform, added Commissioner Gabriel.

The platform gives access to information, funding and career development opportunities and connection with entrepreneurs from over 43 countries.

"By organizing the first European Innovation Days in the US, we sent a strong message about innovation happening in Europe and the opportunity for everyone with their Silicon Valley experience to contribute to their development.

In cooperation and partnership, we can together respond to common challenges," Maria Gabriel concluded
