How to process onions before planting

 Before planting onions, soak them in a solution of baking soda.

Soda solution acts as an antifungal and antiseptic agent.

It clearly improves the quality of planting material, because it increases resistance to diseases, prevents shoots, and ensures a good yield.

Soaking in soda additionally enriches the onion planting material with minerals, the onion tolerates drought better and grows well even in unenriched soil.

How to soak onion seed before planting

• To get the desired solution, dilute soda at the rate of 1 tablespoon of baking soda per 1 liter of water. 

• It is important that the solution in which it is soaked is hot, with a temperature not lower than + 45 ° C, but not higher than + 60 ° C.

• Before immersing the onion in the solution, peel it from the scales.

  But it is not necessary to completely clean the upper husk.

• Keep the onion in the solution for at least 30 minutes.

  So that the solution does not cool down quickly, cover the container with something. 

Soda can also be used to deacidify the soil when planting onions instead of ash or dolomite flour.

To do this, a little soda is added to the holes and onions are immediately planted.

Adding soda in this way will also be useful for preventing the development of pathogenic microorganisms.
