New Delhi:

The Congress has decided to fight the legal battle against the Surat court sentencing Rahul Gandhi to two years imprisonment in a defamation case and to make it a big political issue, taking the opposition parties together and coming out in public.

A meeting of opposition parties has been called by the party at 10 am on Friday.

After this, at 11:30 or 12 o'clock, all opposition MPs will march and demonstrate from Parliament House to Vijay Chowk.

According to party general secretary Jairam Ramesh, the Congress, on behalf of itself and several other opposition parties, has also sought time to meet President Draupadi Murmu.

After a meeting of senior party leaders at Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge's residence, Ramesh told reporters that around 50 MPs, members of the Congress Steering Committee and senior leaders attended the meeting.

Ramesh said that in the afternoon we have sought time from the President on behalf of all the opposition parties.

Tomorrow evening there will be a meeting of the Congress President, all our PCC presidents and leaders of the Legislature Party, where the programs to be held in the states will be discussed.

Ramesh said, 'This is not just a legal issue, it is also a very serious political issue, which is related to the future of our democracy.

This is a big example of Modi government's politics of vengeance, politics of threats, politics of intimidation and politics of harassment.

He said, 'We will fight it legally as well.

We will use the rights that the law gives us, but this is also a political contest, we will fight it directly, we will not back down, we will not be afraid, we will also make it a big political issue.
