Cisco's global senior vice president and chief innovation officer, Guy Diedrich, visited Taiwan this time and interacted with real estate, government and academic partners. Guy Diedrich said that Kaohsiung is one of the important industrial cities in Taiwan. The city government is actively promoting digital transformation, hoping to use the resources of Taiwan’s digital acceleration plan to further help Kaohsiung realize the vision of a smart city. Chen Qimai, based on his past experience as the vice president of the Executive Yuan, said that many national large-scale projects have chosen to settle in Kaohsiung. Cisco has very good results in global digital improvement projects, and must be the best partner of Kaohsiung City.

Chen Qimai said that the reorganization of the global supply chain has created more development opportunities for Southeast Asia and Taiwan. For example, Hon Hai is developing in the field of electric vehicles. The largest production and R&D base for electric buses will be located in Kaohsiung.

Chen Qimai also revealed that the Executive Yuan is expected to announce the Yawan 2.0 regional headquarters plan within a month. The relevant preferential measures will be applicable to domestic and foreign manufacturers. The centers will all be located in Kaohsiung. Although the manufacturing base will be developed in Southeast Asia, the application services will remain in Taiwan.

Luo Dasheng, deputy mayor of Kaohsiung City, pointed out that the Yawan 2.0 plan has been incorporated into the smart harbor, and has discussed with Cisco to establish an information security city in Kaohsiung and a digital trust center. Further make Kaohsiung Yawan a southbound export base for solutions to Southeast Asia.

Kaohsiung City Economic Development Bureau Director Liao Taixiang emphasized that he looks forward to more cooperation with Cisco on information security in the future. The Economic Development Bureau will set up a project team to provide a single window to assist enterprises in completing various project tasks.
